It may sound disgusting, but paying attention to your bowel motions is crucial. Your bowel habits are a good measure of how well your digestive health is working. Changes in the color, shape, and texture of your stool can indicate infection, digestive disorders, or more serious health issues including cancer.
But how can you tell if your stool is healthy? A Piedmont gastroenterologist, Michael Cheng, M.D., responds to this intriguing inquiry.
Dr. Cheng defines healthy stool as “a soft, formed bowel movement that is often brownish in color.” “If someone notices a change in their bowel patterns, such as constipation or diarrhea, or notices a change in the color of their faeces, it could be an indication of a health concern.” If a person exhibits signs or symptoms of illness, such as abdominal discomfort, nausea, a change in appetite, or a change in weight, there may be a problem.”
